OWNing the Experience: Ariana Santos Enriquez, OWN Student

Category : News & Media

By OWN Student Ariana Santos Enriquez, Global Leadership Program

Why OWN

I signed up for OneWorld Now! to learn Russian because I think it is an exciting language to learn. I also think Russian culture is beautiful and find the history of Russia interesting. I believe it is essential to learn about other cultures and I like learning new things. This program would be an excellent opportunity for me to try something new.

OWNing the Experience: Andrea Vielma, OWN Alumna

Category : News & Media

By Andrea Vielma, OneWorld Now! Alumna

I first joined OneWorld Now! the summer after my freshman year in high school, all the way back in 2009. As a brown, middle-class student in a private school, OneWorld Now! offered me a sense of belonging my educators failed to provide. I tribute my personal growth to OWN because of this. A lot of students undergo similar transformations: we start out very quiet at the beginning of the program and by the time we graduate, we find that we have grown confident and comfortable with our own voices.

Honoring Halimo Ahmed, OWN Aluma

Category : News & Media

We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of OneWorld Now! alumna Halimo Ahmed (Maie) last week. Originally from Ethiopia, Halimo relocated to Kenya as a refugee to live with family members in her early years. She once shared her fond memories of going to school in Kenya, where being in school was ‘her happy place.’ “I was happy in school because I was safe,” she said. She loved her teachers, who helped spark a passion for education.
