OWN Student Fathi on our Spring 2023 study abroad in Morocco

The OneWorld Now community was saddened to hear of the devastating earthquake in Morocco last weekend. OWN has deep and broad connections across Morocco: we have staff who were born and raised there; current and former staff who have spent significant time living, working, and studying there; countless OWN students and alums who have studied abroad in the country over the years, both through OWN and partner programs; and many partner organizations and communities that have collaborated with us over the years. Indeed, our most recent study abroad program in April 2023 spent a day in an Atlas Mountain village very close to the epicenter of the quake.

We have heard that our partners and staff families are safe for now.

Many people would like to know how to support the Moroccan people. One of our Moroccan partners reached out to us with a request for financial support to help with relief efforts, and we wanted to share this request with the broader OWN community. She suggested donating through this trusted website. Note that donations will be made in Moroccan dirhams (MAD). To figure out how much you would like to donate in US dollars (USD), you can use this link.
Here are other recommendations from our network, allowing you to give as locally as possible:

We are keeping all the people of Morocco in our thoughts and are hoping for healing and rebuilding in the days to come.
